Tirmazi is a short documentary that follows my mother's story as she narrates the various forms of displacement she has experienced throughout her life. The film uses a combination of archival family photos, present day footage, and animation. Through my mother's experience with forced displacement due to religious persecution and voluntary displacement through immigration, Tirmazi reflects on the ways that landscape, language, and notions of home form identity.
